After 20 years of training and racing and 5 years of writing, I’m excited to share that I’m publishing my first book, The Triathlete’s Devotional (available on Amazon.) I’m hoping to share the story and “why” of this book, and the Why Not Foundation came to mind.

The book was over 5 years in the making — I kept hitting writing walls (similar to the running wall that endurance athletes often face), and I wasn’t always sure that I could finish it. Doubts, fears and vulnerability were all part of the process from start to finish, but I felt like this was my calling to write and complete this devotional to encourage others in their walk of faith and athletic pursuits.

I had to step into some of my hardest moments in the sport — failure, comparison, idolatry — and share that with the reader, but the result was well worth it. I also had to write through the loss of my father, who was my biggest supporter in sport, and I struggled to write the final chapter, “The Finish Line.” When the book was finally finished, I could see his imprint on my life and my athletic career, and knowing that his legacy is also part of my testimony helped me honor him and the life he led.

A quick background about the book:

EVERY MILE CAN BE WORSHIP.

Triathlon asks for everything you have: early alarms, long miles, open water, and the will to keep moving when your body begs you to stop. What if every one of those miles could draw you closer to God?

I’m an IRONMAN® World Championship finisher and endurance coach and I feel like the Triathlete’s Devotional meets you where you train. Each of its thirty-two devotions opens with a true story from the sport, a first sprint triathlon, a dark open-water swim, a bike-course DNF, a podium four years in the waiting, then turns to Scripture, guided reflection questions, journal space, and a closing prayer.

Whether you are a triathlete eyeing your first sprint or your next full-distance start line, a marathoner, a cyclist, or an open-water swimmer, this is your invitation to run the race marked out for you, alongside the God who never leaves your side.
