Participating on a relay team for Ironman Victoria 70.3 was a “why not” experience for me! My husband, Jeremy, was signed-up to do the race, and I was going to be there to cheer him on (and enjoy a nice vacation.) Then a few days before the event, I checked the race Facebook group to look at water conditions (which had been iffy) and saw a post that a relay team needed a runner, as theirs had gotten injured.
I thought, well, I’m going to be there cheering anyway, and I’m pretty well trained for it – hadn’t been running quite those longer distances, but not too far off, so I said, “Why Not” – let’s go help out this team, have an adventure, and do something challenging! And I’m so glad I did! Made some new friends, gained confidence in completing my 3rd half marathon, and got to spend time on the course with Jeremy – it was great!
