My Why Not story was recently inspired by the courage of Nicole and Jason Philbin to share Carson’s adventurous spirit and his legacy
I joined the Why Not cycling team in Door County, Wisconsin for a Century bike event in which I was planning to start with the Why Not team and finish with the 50 mile group. I am not a cyclist. I joined the event to celebrate Carson Philbin with the group. I hadn’t trained much as I was fairly confident that I could finish the 50 mile distance. Somewhere during the first hour or two, I decided to keep cycling. After seven hours of riding and a couple hours of cold rain, I finished the 100 mile ride. I had never previously cycled more than two hours in my life. During those seven hours, the phrase Why Not must have gone through my mind a few hundred times. My Why Not experience to endure that ride was not driven by a personal goal but by the inspiration of the team who were all seeking to achieve something that day that was much bigger than an individual accomplishment. My ‘remember when I first rode 100 miles’ will always be a cherished memory of teammates who pushed each other to succeed and inspired others to pursue their own Why Not achievements. Carson’s spirit and passion to live life to the fullest along with the courage from Nicole and Jason can build a community of people to lift each other up to achieve Why Not accomplishments. Carson’s legacy will grow as the Why Not community broadens to motivate and inspire each other to look for opportunities to lift each other towards new goals. Try. Live. Why Not.
