Why not swim in cold, choppy, foggy, shark-infested water from Alcatraz to San Francisco?

I have always been fascinated by Alcatraz and its story, so when I found out there was a triathlon that included a swim from Alcatraz, I was both fascinated, and terrified…I don’t do well in cold water. I wanted to do this race for years, but it seemed both scary and such a commitment to fly across the country and spend time away from the family, but I figured…Why Not? So, I flew to San Francisco, spent the weekend with 2 of my best friends, and had the most FUN I have ever had in a race – It was AWESOME – coolest race I have ever done!
